Fluconazole Infusion is an antifungal agent used to treat infections due to fungi, for example, Cryptococcal meningitis, Coccidioidomycosis, invasive candidiasis, mucosal candidiasis, and chronic oral atrophic candidiasis. Fluconazole Infusion is also used as a prophylaxis for individuals having a high potential for recurrence of certain infections.

Fluconazole Infusion is used to treat or prevent certain fungal infections in newborns, children, and young people between the ages of 0 to 17 years. It is also utilised to treat adults.

Fluconazole Infusion is a drug class referred to as azole antifungals. It falls under the subgroup triazole, which is used to treat systemic infections. It acts by inhibiting the fungi from synthesising ergosterol, which is a required substance for the fungal cell membrane.

How to use Fluconazole Infusion ?

  • This Infusion is manufactured as a solution and should only be given by a medical doctor or medical practitioner. 
  • This medication should be given intravenously and may be used safely for a period not exceeding 14 days. 
  • This medication should be given at a maximum rate of 200mg/hour. 
  • This  Infusion should be handled in a sterile manner. 
  • The  Infusion should be checked for any discolouration before administration. 
  • The dose should not be administered if the solution is cloudy or precipitated or if the seal is broken.

What is Fluconazole Infusion used for?

It is used to treat infections due to fungi, such as infections of the brain, oesophagus, abdomen, lungs, blood, and other organs. The Infusion is also prescribed for the treatment of oropharyngeal and oesophageal candidiasis. Fluconazole Infusion may be used in the treatment process of:

  • Candida urinary tract infection
  • Peritonitis
  • Systemic Candida infection (disseminated candidiasis, pneumonia, candidemia)
  • Cryptococcal meningitis

Side Effects

Since all drugs carry some unwanted effects with them, some undesired effects can also arise from Fluconazole  Infusion.

Common side effects are, but not necessarily limited to:

  • Indigestion

  • Change in Taste

Precautions for Fluconazole Infusion

  • Your physician has prescribed Fluconazole Infusion to treat your infection and alleviate symptoms.
  • Do not miss any doses and complete the treatment course even if you are recovering.
  • Use a good method of contraception to avoid pregnancy during taking this Infusion.
  • Your physician might test your liver function prior to initiating treatment and periodically after that. Let your physician know if you experience yellowing of skin or eyes, darkened urine, or abdominal pain.
  • Notify your physician if you have a severe rash on your skin along with fever.
  • Your physician has prescribed Fluconazole Infusion to treat your infection and alleviate symptoms.
  • Do not skip any dosages and complete the entire course of treatment even if you recover.
