Description

Cefuroxime Sodium Sterile Injection

Cefuroxime comes under the category of antibiotics referred to as cephalosporin, which is used for treating a variety of bacterial infections. It is helpful in the therapy of urinary tract infections (UTI), Lower respiratory tract infections (bronchitis) with mild to moderate severity, lower respiratory tract infections with severe cases (pneumonia), pyelonephritis (renal inflammation due to the bacterial infection), uncomplicated gonorrhoea (sexually transmitted infection), Lyme disease (induced due to sucking by infected black-legged tick insect) in adult and children above 12 years old.

Cefuroxime is a wide-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic that helps to damage a diverse range of bacteria. Cefuroxime helps to damage the bacterial cell by stopping the action of the enzyme that is responsible for the occurrence of peptidoglycan (a very important component of the bacterial cell wall) by binding to the outer surface of the bacteria. As a result, the bacterial cell is not able to grow or proliferate and finally gets destroyed.

Benefits:

  • Cefuroxime helps to treat a diverse range of bacterial infections that are caused by gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It is used to cure infections in the respiratory tract, ear, skin, genitourinary tract, and bone.
  • Cefuroxime also inhibits the spread of infection following surgery and in the treatment of Lyme disease due to bacterial infection in adults and children aged over 12 years.
  • It is a killer of bacteria in that it does not allow them to build their bacterial protective covering (cell wall) necessary for survival.

Uses:

  • Cefuroxime is applied in the treatment of bacterial infections.
  • It is applied in the treatment of urinary tract, soft tissue and skin, blood, and lung bacterial infections (pneumonia).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

Q. How quickly does Cefuroxime work?

The duration for which Cefuroxime works varies based on the nature of the infection and the patient’s response to the drug. The antibiotic might begin to act immediately after taking it, but for optimal effect, it might take some time. In most cases, the symptoms of bacterial infections begin to subside in 48 to 72 hours after initiating the drug.

Q. Can I take Cefuroxime myself?

No, it is a prescribed drug, given by a doctor for preventing specific medical conditions. Taking it by yourself can cause unwanted side effects.

Q. Must I miss meals or beverages with Cefuroxime?

Once you have taken an antibiotic, you might have to wait for as long as three hours before eating or drinking any milk product, such as milk itself, along with butter, yogurt, and cheese. Grapefruit juice and mineral-based dietary supplements like calcium also tend to reduce the action of antibiotics.
