Cefpodoxime belongs to the class of cephalosporin antibiotics which is active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The antibiotics like cefpodoxime which are active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria are also called extended-spectrum antibiotics. Its prominent role is to kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria by preventing the bacteria from forming a cell wall thus disturbing its action and making its survival difficult.
